Welcome to Wildflower Families!

This tool is designed to help you identify wildflower families. The motivation comes from Thomas J. Elpel's book Botany in a Day, and the ID tips are sourced from his accompanying website (link). The photo and ID data is pulled from iNaturalist.

To use: First, click which families you would like to practice (purple = selected). Then click START. Type your guess for the photo and press the enter key to check. Most photos shown will be in the selected families, but occasionally a plant not in these families will be shown. Typing "Other" or the correct family will be considered correct for such plants. Use the autocomplete feature, it helps avoid spelling errors. Also, clicking a family in the grid while holding Alt will send you to the family's info webpage. The # species and # photos for each family in the current dataset is shown in parentheses.
